3 Reasons Brides should Invest in high Quality Hair Extensions for their Wedding hairstyles

One of the first things Brides do when they start to envision their Wedding Day and what they want to look like, is start saving inspirational photos, whether it’s on Instagram or to a board on Pinterest. In my time as a South Asian Bridal Makeup and Hair Artist, I’ve looked through my fair share of wedding mood boards and saved Instagram posts for makeup looks and hairstyles. The first thing I like to share with my Brides when looking at photos of hairstyles is to keep in mind the length and volume of the hair models in these photos. Almost all of these photos usually feature a model or Bride with very thick and long hair or have hair extensions incorporated to create hairstyles with body and volume. So what can you do as a Bride to achieve the hairstyles you are dreaming of for your wedding day?

Well, the first thing would be to have an honest conversation with your Bridal Hair Artist to understand what is achievable and what adjustments may need to be made to make that hairstyle work for you. One of the most common solutions I discuss with my bridal clients is the use of hair extensions for their wedding hairstyles. Chances are, you’ve never had to shop for hair extensions before and it can feel really overwhelming trying to decide which hair extensions will work best for you. There are many options available out there and as you do your research you’ll notice that there is a broad price range. When it comes to hair extensions, I believe, you get what you pay for and the quality of your hair extensions really matters. Let’s jump into a few reasons why I recommend investing in quality hair extensions for your Wedding Events:

1. Choosing high quality hair extensions that are 100% human hair rather than synthetic will ensure your hair extensions can hold up against hot tools without getting damaged and will last you much longer while giving you a natural look and feel.

2. High quality hair extensions will elevate your hairstyle by adding volume and body which is usually more important to me than length when it comes to creating Bridal Hairstyles. I recommend using hair extensions for creating hairstyles where your hair is all down with curls or waves, for hollywood waves, ponytails, for full body or long braids, and even for half up styles.

3. Your high quality hair extensions will help hold curls well and when incorporated properly into your hairstyle, they will blend seamlessly with your natural hair.

Now that you understand the value of investing in high quality hair extensions, here are a few questions to ask yourself when choosing hair extensions:

1. What is your natural hair color? Do you have highlights/ombre/balayage? Do you plan to color treat your hair or make changes before your wedding day? This will help you decide which color to choose.

2. How much volume are you looking to achieve with your hair extensions for your hairstyle? The weight of your hair extensions is measured in grams on most websites and there are usually pictures of how full your hair would look based on each option to help you decide.

3. How much length are you looking to achieve with your hair extensions for your hairstyle? Are you opting for a long side braid or long ponytail that requires a lot of length?

Have a conversation with your Bridal Hair Artist about each of the hairstyles you want to create so that they can give you a recommendation based on what your needs are. If you are an Indian Bride and have multiple hairstyles that will be created the week of your wedding, keep each of those looks in mind. For this reason I recommend purchasing clip-in hair extensions because they can be incorporated into your hair in different ways to achieve different hairstyles. My personal favorite Clip In Extensions to work with on my Bridal Clients are by Bombay Hair.  They have so many options when it comes to length and weight and I always tell my Brides exactly which ones to purchase based on their hair color and hairstyles they want to achieve for their wedding events, so there’s no guessing involved.

Bridal Tip: Don't wait until the last minute to order your hair extensions especially during wedding season. Order them at least 2 to 3 months before your events to leave room for shipping and making sure they are a good color match. Hair extensions usually come with a sample piece so that you can ensure they are a good color match. Be sure to try this before cutting the band to your hair extensions. Hair extensions typically cannot be returned once they have been opened so it’s very important to not skip this step.
